Bovet Virtuoso VIII – details of an incredible tourbillon.
At the heart of Virtuoso VIII lies a one-of-a-kind tourbillon, beautifully crafted and adjusted with chronometry in mind. Its architecture, level of finishing and regularity make it truly unique.
Any Bovet Virtuoso timepiece is about chronometry. So using a tourbillon inside Virtuoso VIII isnt for show. It is a means to an end. Bovet has introduced its own kind, a patented double face flying tourbillon. A traditional flying tourbillon carriage is held only at the bottom. This fragile construction creates friction and instability, which defeat the purpose. A bridge grabs Bovets flying tourbillon mid-height. Weight is evenly distributed on either side, balance wheel above, escapement underneath. It is more stable, smoother and less shock-sensitive. And of course, Virtuoso VIII is entirely manufactured, finished, assembled and regulated by Bovet.
Virtuoso VIIIs patented double face flying tourbillon is also built like a work of art. Of chronometric art, since it is painstakingly regulated to ensure exceptional accuracy. Meeting with its own standards has led Bovet to use titanium for the carriage arms. This material is less prone to be magnetized, one of watchmaking silent enemies. Of watchmaking art too, since it is finished according to the most demanding standards. Bovet has pushed the envelope in terms of bevelling, polishing and satin-brushing. The curved carriage arms are thoroughly polished and rounded off, adding to the curvaceousness of the tourbillon, and of Virtuoso VIII as a whole.
